ABSTRACT

This study was designed to investigate into the assessment of secondary school student performance in economics in Ado-Ekiti Local Government are in Ekiti State
This population of this study consisted 20 economics teacher and 100 economics student in their senior secondary school II. A simple random sampling technique was selected to investigate the student performance in economics was due to lack of interest in economics by student, short supply of qualified economics teachers I schools, lack of student perceive economics. Questionnaire was designed and distributed to collect data, mean, score, frequency, counts and percentage which were used to analyze the data collected. 120 copies of the questionnaire were distributed to students and teachers in the school and all questionnaire were correctly filled and returned.
The result show that the insufficient time allocated in the school time-table for economics also contribute to the poor performance in the senior secondary school. However, economic teachers should try to work harder to make sure that the school achieve brilliant performance and the school management should provide facilities to aid the teaching of economics.
Based on the finding above ,this study proposed a number of measures to ensure that excellent performance in economics takes a stand in the senior secondary school among which are conducive environment, experience and qualified teachers, discipline in school, sufficient time-table and effective facilities in school for teaching economics.
